3 Tips to Increase Chances of Accomplishing Your Goals
January is just around the corner; if you are like most women, you have resolved to have better skin. According to US News and World Report, the failure rate for New Year's resolutions is about 80 percent, with most people completely quitting by mid-February. Unfortunately, coming up with a resolution is the easiest part of the process, but don’t let this be a deterrent. Goals are what propel us in life and are the first step in every journey. Here are a few things that will increase your chances of accomplishing your skincare resolutions and goals.
Why is Your Goal Important?
Two years ago, I had a client come in to address skin concerns in preparation for a wedding in four months. She was consistent, achieved noticeable results, and began receiving compliments from her husband and friends in about four weeks.
Having an important "why" is the next crucial step in this process and helps to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Ask yourself these questions: Why is this goal important to you? What do you hope to gain if you achieve your results? Why will you be disappointed if you don't achieve your results?
Having a Plan is Essential to Accomplishing Goals
"A Goal Without a Plan Is Just a Wish" -Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Achieving better skin is an end goal that must be supported by concrete (actionable and measurable) goals to be successful. For example, your concrete goal may be to use an eye cream every night for the next two weeks; the goal is a plan that helps you establish a new habit that ultimately helps you attain your end goal. This example of a concrete goal may seem like a minor step, but the truth is this will protect you from feeling overwhelmed and failing due to implementing too much change at one time. Desmond Tutu once wisely said, "There is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time." He means you could accomplish everything in life by gradually taking on just a little at a time.
A Support System is Key in Accomplishing Goals
When making lifestyle changes, family, friends, and professionals are often the people who can help you on your journey. For example, your spouse may provide support in the form of time and money to accomplish goals; your friend may join you on the journey, and an esthetician can assist you with education, setting realistic goals, and establishing a customized plan that works with your lifestyle.
