How to Prepare for Your Eyelash Extension Appointment
Are you ready to take the plunge and have beautiful lashes 24/7? If so, the NovaLASH Advanced Certified Extensionist at Brow to Toe is going to provide you with a few tips to make the most out of your first and future appointments.
Things to Avoid Within 72 Hours of Eyelash Extension Appointment
During the application process, the extensions are dipped in an adhesive and are placed on each individual lash. Your natural lashes must be completely clean and free of any oil, make-up or debris as to not interfere with the bond. As a result, your extensionist WILL take as much time as necessary to ensure your natural lashes are free of make-up and debris. The time used to clean your lashes will be subtracted from the application time. For example, 20 minutes of cleansing natural lashes may result in about 20 less lash extensions per eye. Here are a few products to avoid within 72hrs of your initial lash extension application:
Mascara (especially water-proof) - While the majority of eye make-up is easily removed with one cleanse, the nearly visible particles of mascara tend to remain on the lashes after many cleanses.
Eyelash Adhesives/Glue - Remnants from adhesives must be removed prior to applying eyelash extensions. The solvent used to remove adhesive may not be used on the day of application. Notify your extensionist so that you can schedule a removal appointment prior to application day.
Oil - Is a great means to remove make-up and debris from eye area, but it must be avoided 24-48 hours before the appointment.
What to do Before Arriving to Your Extension Appointment
The initial eyelash appointment may be up to three hours and the follow-up (in-fills) may take up to about 90 minutes, depending on the frequency of your visits. It is important that you are in a relaxed state and able to lie still during this time. In order to do so, we ask that you:
Dress comfortably
Avoid caffeine or stimulants
Avoid Excessive water - A trip to the bathroom may take away 10-15 min from application time.
Wear glasses vs. contact if possible; otherwise, you will be asked to remove contacts prior to application.
Do not wear large dangling earrings
Do not style your hair in a ponytail or with clips that may be uncomfortable while lying
Please Arrive On time to Your Appointment
In addition to the other pre-appointment recommendations, your on time arrival ensures you get the most out of your lash extension appointments. Here's why:
Your lash artist must perform certain pre and post application steps which may account for about 15 minutes of the appointment time
There are multiple steps in applying one lash extension and your artist will not compromise quality for quantity. As a result, you will receive less extensions during this appointment. For example being 10 minutes late may result in 15-20 less extensions per eye
Your artist can only work as faster than their adhesive dries
In most cases, your artist will not be able to accommodate your late arrival by extending your appointment time Keep in mind a 10 minute late arrival can result in 15-20 less extensions per eye.
Things to Do Once You Arrive to Your Eyelash Extension Appointment
We are almost there, but there a few things we need to do before applying your lovely lashes. First, we will have a consultation which includes a consent form and we will go over what to expect before, during, and post application. We encourage you to ask as many questions. Before beginning the application, there are a few things you will be asked to do:
Use the bathroom!
Place your cell phones/smart watches on silent - Because eyes must remain closed during application and it is common for clients to fall asleep. A ringing or vibrating device is a distraction and gives clients the urge to open their eyes. If the adhesive is not dried and cured, it will result in irritation and possibly excessive watering which may prevent us from finishing the application.
Remove contacts if applicable
Remove gum or candy - the chewing and sucking motion causes your faces to move and interferes with lash placement.
